As season five of the Formula E championship rapidly approaches, I have been spying plenty of you on social media pondering if the hype for the all-electric championship is actually real. Well, Ladies and Gents, I am pleased to confirm that the rumours are in fact true: Formula E is one of the best championships motorsport has to offer.
Don’t worry, I was once like you. Living my life in the dark, thinking that roaring V12s were motorsport’s best and only offering and anything below that would send me to sleep – I grew up a nineties baby for goodness sake. Heaven forbid I was to ever find myself watching a motorsport championship which produced little to no noise at all (not true by the way), solely battery-powered even, but then along came Formula E. It was new, innovative and fresh and as my interest in championships like F1 took a dive, Formula E was there to remind me why I fell in love with motorsport in the first place.

Allan McNish is someone who knows motorsport like the back of his hand. An ex-Formula One driver, 2013 FIA World Endurance Champion, and three-time 24hs Le Mans winner, McNish is not only one of the most talented individuals in motorsport, he is also one of the most-liked and respected.
These days he can be found offering expert opinions and analysis for the WEC ‘Super Season’ as a broadcaster or in his newly-appointed role of Team Principal for the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E Team. Having been linked with Audi Sport since 1999 and proving his worth as a truly fantastic ambassador for the German car manufacturer, it was no surprise that since announcing his retirement in 2013 he has stayed within the motorsport community in a more managerial role.
“I had a lot of success on the circuit but we [myself and Audi] also had success off it and so when I stopped racing, I knew I wanted to continue in the sport because it is my life and also because I knew that I wanted to continue with the people I had built my life with,” McNish states when I ask him about life after professional racing.

2016 was kind to Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman became the FIA GP2 World Champion and impressed us all with his natural talent for driving and showing ambition that is leaving fans and media hoping he will soon land himself in Formula 1.
I caught up with Gasly to talk about his year in motorsport earlier in the week. From taking the crown of GP2 Champion in Abu Dhabi last month to being involved in a car accident ahead of the Silverstone weekend, Gasly shares his highs and lows about his year exclusively on katyfairman.com.

I have often been asked if I loved writing and found motorsport through the platform or if I started as a racing junkie and fell into the journalism side of things. For of those of you that are interested, it is the latter. Motorsport, especially Formula One, was something that was introduced to me at a young age. I certainly was not one of those children that found themselves being carted around the country watching motorsport trackside, it was more a case of having it on the television at the weekends because dad liked to watch it; no romanticised story behind it I’m afraid.
