When Jaguar Racing joined Formula E in season three, they inevitably found themselves at a slight disadvantage as teams around them had already gained two years experience in the all-electric championship. The first season proved slow and a huge learning curve, with the team’s best result being a 4th place and 8th place at the Mexico City ePrix for Mitch Evans and Adam Carroll, respectively. Nelson Piquet Jr, the season one champion in Formula E, then joined the team for season four alongside Evans.
Season Four, with the duo of Evans and Piquet Jr, proved to be more of a success. Evans earned his first ever pole position in Formula E and even managed to secure himself a podium finish after Daniel Abt’s disqualification in Hong Kong.
However, with the introduction of the Gen2 cars and Jaguar taking big steps such as producing most of their race car in-house, Evans has really had his time to shine and finally demonstrate the raw and impressive talent he has behind the wheel. Finally taking his first Formula E win this year and currently sitting in third in the drivers’ standings, the Kiwi could take the title this weekend. I caught up with him away from the track to hear his thoughts on his best Formula E season to date and how he and the team plan on tackling this possible career-defining weekend.

Formula E returns to the Parisian streets for a third consecutive year this weekend. This season, which started in December when the all-electric championship visited Hong Kong, now only has five races remaining in the battle to decide the victor of the season four drivers’ title.
Currently Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne looks to be the favourite, 18 points ahead of Sam Bird who is second in the standings, but recent races have left the former F1 driver craving more than just totalling up championship points. He wants wins, especially in front of his home crowd this weekend.

Starting 15th on the grid in Paris, Daniel Abt drove one of the best races in his Formula E career to place his ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport in P7 as the final laps of the Paris ePrix approached. He had been awarded Fanboost and overtaken a total of eight cars during the 49 lap race, making him a worthy contender for driver of the race.
Unfortunately Abt ran into trouble just three corners before the chequered flag. A battery management issue caused the car to come to an abrupt halt and ended his race meters from the finish line. Understandably, Abt was a broken man and although he was able to take several positives from the weekend in the heart of France’s capital city, the disappointment in the unreliability of the car hurt him deeply.

It was the perfect start for the new era of the FIA World Rally Championship: four different winners from four manufacturers in the first four races of the calendar.
